Mogadishu – A delegation of Somali Federal Parliament members and senior government officials visited the Somali National Army hospital in Mogadishu on Saturday to express solidarity with soldiers wounded in Friday’s heavy fighting in El-Dheer district of Galgaduud region.
During the visit, the officials commended the troops for their courage in thwarting an Al-Shabaab offensive and assured them of the government’s unwavering support. “We bring reassuring news to their families that the terrorists’ bodies have been recovered—a clear victory for the Somali people,” said MP Yasin Fareey. “To our brave soldiers defending justice and security, we pray for mercy for those who fell and healing for the injured.”
The Ministry of Defence reported that at least 30 Al-Shabaab fighters, including several key commanders, were killed in the battle. Multiple senior militant figures known for orchestrating attacks on civilians were also captured. Local residents told Hiiraan Online that the bodies of insurgents remained scattered on the outskirts of the town, reflecting the scale of the group’s defeat.
Defence Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi praised the joint forces for “valiantly defending El-Dheer,” noting that the militants were forced to retreat without recovering their dead or wounded.
